About Me

My name is Paul Jolliffe, I am 40 and I was born in September.

This is always the difficult bit, isn't it, a bit like the creeping death that you have when you are say in a room of strangers and you all take it in turns to introduce yourself.

Where to start? The beginning is always a good place...

I was born in Munster, Germany and have lived abroad for about half of my childhood in Germany, Iran and Kenya, my Dad had 'itchy feet' so as a family we moved around quite a bit, seeing other cultures as a child was a good experience, but also bad in some ways as I don't have any roots.

I currently live near Chester in the NW of England, with my wife Karen and our six cats, Clarissa, Dickins, Izzy, Wizard, Apollo and Widget. Clarissa and Dickins are good old moggies, but Izzy and Wizard are Bengals, Izzy is a Snow and the Wizard a Brown Spot. As a breed they are nuts, but great fun and we love them to bits. Widget and Apollo are Maine Coons, big fluffy cats, soft as anything and they are huge, if you want a cat that is a house cat then Maines are your best option.

I work in IT and have done so since leaving school, I specialise in Unix Application Support and Unix Engineering, currently for Tuxedo based applications. I spent a number of years contracting and as such am always interested in new oppurtunies. If you would like to know more about my skills then my CV can be viewed from the menu. I can turn my hand to most things Unix related and have a broad range of skills when it Networking to General Computing, the term that a lot of people use when describing me is Geek, which I think is a little harsh, but I would.

I have few interests and like most blokes they tend to be faddy, my current one is restoring an old wooden canal boat. I have a Private Pilots License and fly when I can although since visitng Sheffield less and less (where I used to fly) its becoming more difficult, but once the boat is on the water I'm going to get up at least once a month.
